Laos

Laos is a landlocked, mountainous country along the Mekong, the quietest and most relaxed destination of Indochina. Luang Prabang, a UNESCO-listed town of golden temples and French villas, is known for the dawn procession of monks collecting alms. Vang Vieng lies among limestone peaks and caves, and the four thousand islands of Si Phan Don spread across the Mekong in the south, near the ancient temple of Wat Phou.

Vientiane is a calm capital, and the Plain of Jars holds mysterious stone jars. A modern railway links Vientiane, Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang with China.
