Description

Phonsavan (ໂພນສະຫວັນ) is the modest capital of Laos' Xieng Khouang Province and the gateway to the mysterious Plain of Jars, one of Southeast Asia's most remarkable archaeological sites and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The region is renowned for its thousands of massive stone jars, whose origin and exact purpose remain unknown, as well as for its rolling hills and the lasting legacy of the Vietnam War era. Visitors experience a unique blend of archaeology, natural beauty, and local culture, while the MAG UXO Visitor Information Centre highlights the ongoing efforts to clear unexploded ordnance and preserve the region's heritage. Phonsavan is the ideal base for exploring the extraordinary jar sites and the rich cultural landscape of Xieng Khouang.
