Description
Champasak (ຈໍາປາສັກ) is a peaceful riverside town on the Mekong and one of southern Laos' most important cultural destinations. It is best known for the nearby Khmer temple complex of Wat Phu, whose origins date back to the 5th century and which, together with the surrounding cultural landscape, is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Traditional wooden houses, scattered French colonial buildings, and a relaxed atmosphere reflect the town's rich history. Combining remarkable cultural heritage with scenic river landscapes, Champasak is an ideal base for exploring Wat Phu and the Mekong region.
