Travel to Somalia

Somalia lies on the Horn of Africa and has the longest coastline of mainland Africa. Mogadishu, the capital, has old Italian and Arab buildings and the Lido beach. In the self-declared, internationally largely unrecognised region of Somaliland in the north, the Laas Geel caves hold some of the best preserved rock paintings in Africa, and Hargeisa and Berbera are the main towns. Most governments advise against all travel to Somalia, with somewhat different advice for Somaliland, so current advice must be checked.
