Short description of Berbera
Berbera has the white sand and the warm reef that the rest of this coast promises and so rarely delivers, and in winter it fills up with families home from abroad. The old town behind the shore is a quarter of Ottoman and colonial merchant houses in coral stone, much of it roofless now and quietly collapsing, and it is the finest thing of its kind in the Horn. The container port beside it has been rebuilt on a very large scale indeed. In summer the town reaches the high forties and simply empties out.
