Short description of Kismayo
Kismayo sits near the mouth of the Jubba where the coast runs down toward Kenya, and it was a prosperous port before the war made it one of the most fought over towns in the country. It is held now by Jubaland forces with an international garrison behind them, while the hinterland beyond the checkpoints is not. The beach is long and almost entirely unused, and the fish market still works at dawn. The Bajuni islands offshore are lovely and yet are almost never actually reached. Very little is sold here and very little departs.
