Short description of Burco
Burco is Somaliland's second city and the site of the livestock market that supplies much of the Gulf, the largest of its kind in the Horn and the one real reason to stop. Camels and sheep change hands here by the tens of thousands before going down the pass to Berbera for shipping. The town declared the independence of the territory in nineteen ninety one and marks it with a monument. Diaspora families fill the town every northern summer. Beyond the market there is very little, and it works mainly as the overnight stop toward Ceerigaabo.
