Description
Schengen is a small wine village on the Moselle where Luxembourg, Germany and France meet, and its name is known across the continent because the agreement abolishing Europe's internal border checks was signed here aboard a river boat. The European Museum tells that story beside three steel columns and a set of original border posts standing at the water's edge. Vineyards climb the slope behind the village to the Markusbierg viewpoint, which looks over all three countries at once. Wine cellars, a riverside promenade and the start of long-distance paths make the village an easy half-day stop.
