Description
The Mullerthal is the region east of Luxembourg City that markets itself as Little Switzerland, though the comparison undersells what makes it unusual. Meltwater and time cut the sandstone plateau into a maze of narrow clefts, overhangs and free-standing blocks, so the paths squeeze between rock walls, drop down ladders and pass through slots barely shoulder wide. Beech forest closes overhead and moss covers everything. The Mullerthal Trail links the best of it over more than a hundred kilometres, and the Schiessentümpel waterfall under its little stone bridge is the most photographed spot in the country.
