Description
Clervaux lies in a tight bend of the Clerve deep in the northern Ardennes, its white castle standing on a rock above roofs of grey slate. The castle houses The Family of Man, the photographic exhibition Edward Steichen assembled for New York and left to his native country, now inscribed on the UNESCO Memory of the World register. Above the town the Benedictine abbey of Saint Maurice looks down from the forested ridge in heavy Rhenish-Romanesque style. A museum in the castle records the Battle of the Bulge, which reached these streets.
