Description
Mondorf-les-Bains (Munneref) is the only thermal spa town in Luxembourg, sitting on the French border where the Gander valley opens toward the Moselle. Its water rises at thirty-six degrees, heavily loaded with sodium, calcium and sulphates, and was found by chance during a search for rock salt. The spa complex is one of the largest wellness centres in Europe. Around it lies a landscaped park of forty-five hectares laid out by Édouard André, who also designed the municipal park of the capital. The baroque Saint Michael church stands above the old village, and the country's main casino is a short walk away.
