Description
Predjama Castle (Predjamski grad) is a spectacular medieval fortress in Slovenia, built halfway up a 123-meter-high limestone cliff directly into the entrance of a cave. As the world’s largest cave castle, it combines medieval fortress architecture with the natural karst landscape and appears almost as if it has grown out of the rock itself. The castle is closely associated with Erazem of Predjama, a 15th-century nobleman whose legendary resistance against an imperial siege is said to have lasted for more than a year. A vast cave system with hidden passages played a key role in the story. Inside, historic rooms, weapons and armor offer a glimpse into medieval life.
