Maribor is Slovenia’s second-largest city and an important center of wine, culture, and history on the Drava River. The city is known for its historic old town, the riverside Lent district, and the Old Vine, recognized as the oldest grapevine in the world. Gothic and Baroque buildings, remnants of the medieval city walls, and Maribor Castle shape the cityscape. South of the city, the wooded Pohorje Mountains offer hiking trails, winter sports, and a cable car connecting the urban area with the surrounding mountain landscape.
