Postojna Cave
Slovenia · Kras · 530 m
Description
Postojna Cave (Postojnska jama) is one of Europe’s best-known show caves and one of Slovenia’s most remarkable natural attractions. The roughly 24-kilometre-long karst cave system leads through an underground world of vast chambers, striking limestone formations and winding passages, explored partly by an electric cave train. Highlights include the Great Hall, renowned for its impressive scale and acoustics, and the Brilliant, a dazzling white stalagmite and symbol of the cave. The Vivarium also offers a glimpse of the olm, a rare, pale-pink, blind amphibian specially adapted to life in complete darkness. Together with the spectacular Predjama Castle, built into a dramatic cliff face, Postojna Cave is one of the defining attractions of Slovenia’s Karst region.
