Description
Piran is a Venetian-influenced port town on Slovenia’s Adriatic coast and a picturesque blend of history, Mediterranean culture, and maritime heritage. Its old town occupies a small peninsula jutting into the sea and is known for its narrow lanes, terracotta roofs, and elegant Tartini Square, named after the celebrated violinist and composer Giuseppe Tartini. Above the town rise the Church of St. George and its freestanding bell tower, while the historic city walls offer sweeping views across the rooftops, the Adriatic, and the Gulf of Trieste. Piran combines Venetian architecture with Istrian coastal traditions and a centuries-old salt-making heritage preserved in the nearby Sečovlje Salt Pans.
