Description
Lake Bled (Blejsko jezero) is one of Slovenia’s most iconic destinations, a picturesque Alpine lake on the edge of the Julian Alps. At its center lies the tiny Bled Island, crowned by the Church of the Mother of God, while the medieval Bled Castle rises dramatically from a rocky cliff above the water. Traditional wooden pletna boats carry visitors to the island, where local tradition holds that ringing the church’s wishing bell can make a wish come true. A scenic path of about six kilometers circles the lake, offering ever-changing views of the island, castle, and surrounding mountains. Bled is also famous for kremšnita, its beloved traditional cream cake.
