Jordan

Jordan is a small desert kingdom in the Middle East with some of the most spectacular ancient sites in the world. Petra, the rose-red city carved into sandstone cliffs by the Nabataeans, is its most famous sight. The desert valley of Wadi Rum offers jeep tours, camel rides and nights under the stars, and the Dead Sea, the lowest point on land, lets visitors float in its salty water.

The Roman city of Jerash, the mosaics of Madaba and the coral reefs of Aqaba complete a trip. Amman is a relaxed and safe starting point.
