Palestine consists of the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, whose status and borders remain disputed. Most visitors come to the West Bank from Jerusalem, crossing Israeli checkpoints. Bethlehem holds the Church of the Nativity, Jericho is among the oldest towns in the world and offers a cable car to the Monastery of the Temptation, and Hebron and Nablus keep historic old towns and souqs.
Ramallah is the lively administrative centre.
