Description
The Dead Sea (البحر الميت) is a unique salt lake in the Jordan Rift Valley, lying more than four hundred meters below sea level. Its extremely salty water has an unusually high density, allowing bathers to float effortlessly on the surface. The Jordanian shore around Sweimeh is lined with comfortable resorts, private beaches, freshwater pools, and spas offering mineral-rich Dead Sea mud treatments. The landscape stretches from the deeply sunken lake basin to the mountains of the Jordanian highlands and the West Bank. The water level has been falling for decades, causing the shoreline to retreat and sinkholes to form. Its dry, sunny climate makes the Dead Sea a distinctive travel destination.
