Zomba

Malawi · 950 m

Short description of Zomba

Zomba was the colonial capital until nineteen seventy five and still keeps the jacaranda avenues and administrative buildings of that period at the foot of its own mountain. The plateau above it rises to nearly two thousand metres and is reached by a one way pair of forest roads, ending at viewpoints that look out over the Shire valley and across to Mulanje. Chingwe's Hole over on the far rim has a long and rather unpleasant set of legends attached to it. The town market down below is among the biggest anywhere in the country.
