Short description of Blantyre
Blantyre is the commercial capital and the oldest European settlement in the whole country, founded as a Scottish mission in eighteen seventy six and named after the village that Livingstone came from. The church that the missionaries built with no architect and no training at all is an extraordinary thing, all arches and towers in red brick. Mandala House just down the road is the oldest building in all of Malawi and now holds a gallery. Three separate mountains stand inside the city limits, and all of them can be walked in a single morning.
