Short description of Dedza
Dedza is the highest town in the country, set in cool pine country on the escarpment an hour and a half south of the capital, and the Mozambican border runs along the edge of it. The pottery here is the best known craft workshop in Malawi and its café is the standard stop on the drive south. In the hills around, the Chongoni rock art area protects a hundred and twenty seven painted shelters, the densest concentration in Central Africa. The mountain rising behind the town is a stiff half day walk to the top.
