Vladivostok, Russia

Vladivostok

Russia · Primorsky Krai · 30 m

Description

Vladivostok (Владивосток) is the Pacific end of Russia and the terminus of the Trans-Siberian, nine thousand two hundred and eighty eight kilometres of track from Moscow, marked by an obelisk on the platform. The city climbs steep hills around the Golden Horn, a deep inlet spanned by a cable bridge that has become the emblem of the place. It was closed to outsiders through the Soviet period as a naval base, and the fortress batteries built into the headlands are still there. Korea, China and Japan are all closer than most of Russia. The seafood is the best in the country.
