Description
Travnik was the seat of the Ottoman viziers of Bosnia for over a century and a half, which left a town of unusual dignity for its size in a valley below the Vlašić mountain. A stone fortress of the fifteenth century stands above it with a round tower and a view down the whole valley. The Many Coloured Mosque carries a painted facade and a small covered market built into its base. Ivo Andrić, who won the Nobel Prize for literature, was born here and set a novel in the viziers' residency.
