Description
Blagaj is built where the Buna comes out of the ground, not as a spring but as a river, emerging at full volume from the base of a cliff two hundred metres high. A dervish house of the sixteenth century stands directly against the rock beside the outflow, white walls and a shingled roof over water that stays icy through the summer. The Ottomans chose the spot for its stillness and the place is still used for prayer. A ruined fortress of the Bosnian kings sits on the ridge above.
