Description
Jajce is the one town in Europe with a large waterfall inside it, where the Pliva drops twenty metres into the Vrbas directly below the old town walls. It was the last capital of the medieval Bosnian kingdom and the place the last king was crowned and later beheaded by the Ottomans. A fortress sits on the hill above, with catacombs cut into rock and a Roman temple of Mithras below it. Two lakes upstream carry a row of small wooden watermills that have been photographed for a century.
