Description
Tara (Тара) is a plateau of dense spruce and fir forest above the Drina canyon on the Bosnian border, and it is the last refuge of the Serbian spruce, a relict conifer that survived the ice ages here and grows wild almost nowhere else. The Drina cuts a thousand metre gorge along its western edge and the viewpoint at Banjska Stena looks straight down it. The small wooden house standing alone on a rock in the middle of the river below Bajina Basta has been rebuilt several times after floods and is the picture the park is known by.
