Short description of Sidon
Sidon (صيدا) is an old Phoenician port whose sea castle sits on an island joined to the shore by a causeway, built by Crusaders from reused Roman columns. Behind the harbour the covered souk runs in vaulted lanes between khans and mosques, and the Soap Museum explains the olive oil trade in a restored factory. Fishing boats still work out of the harbour and the catch is grilled along the waterfront. The Temple of Eshmun with its Phoenician terraces and water channels lies just outside town, and orange groves fill the coastal plain around it.
