Rosh HaNikra

Rosh HaNikra (ראש הנקרה) lies on the Lebanese border, where a white chalk cliff plunges vertically into the sea. The surf has carved a system of grottoes into the rock, which can be explored along concrete walkways about a meter above the water, with the swell rolling beneath your feet. A cable car descends the steep cliff face and is considered one of the steepest in the world. Nearby, a railway tunnel dating from the period of the British Mandate runs north toward Beirut and ends at a locked gate. Access depends on the security situation along the border, and the site has therefore been closed for a long time. Before setting out, it is advisable to check whether and under what conditions access is currently possible.
