Short description of Batroun
Batroun (البترون) is a small coastal town of yellow sandstone lanes, church bells and beach clubs, and the summer resort Lebanese head to when Beirut is hot. A Phoenician sea wall of fused shell rock still shields the old harbour from the swell. The lanes behind it hold Saint Stephen's cathedral, souvenir shops and the stalls that sell the lemonade the town is known for. Beaches and clubs stretch to the north and south, and the vineyards of the Batroun hills produce some of the country's newer wines. Nightlife in summer is loud and goes on late.
