Short description of Beiteddine
Beiteddine (بيت الدين) is the palace an emir of the Chouf built over thirty years in the nineteenth century, and the best preserved example of the Lebanese style that blends Ottoman, Italian and Arab building. Courtyards open one into the next, fountains run in the reception halls, and the hammam is lined with marble. A wing holds one of the largest collections of Byzantine mosaics in the region, lifted from a coastal church. The village around it keeps stone lanes and silk merchants' houses. Deir el Qamar with its own palaces is a short drive down the valley, and the Chouf cedar reserve rises behind.
