Short description of Baalbek
Baalbek (بعلبك) holds the largest Roman temples ever built, raised over two centuries on a terrace in the Bekaa valley. Six columns of the temple of Jupiter still stand, twenty metres tall, and the temple of Bacchus beside them is more complete than almost any other Roman temple anywhere, its carved ceiling and doorway still in place. In the quarry outside town lies the Stone of the Pregnant Woman, a cut block of about a thousand tonnes. The site is listed by UNESCO and a summer festival stages concerts between the columns.
