Description
Podgorica is the capital of Montenegro and the country's largest city, rebuilt after bombing in the Second World War left little of the older town standing. What survives of that is Stara Varoš, an Ottoman quarter of low houses around a clock tower and two mosques on the Ribnica. The Morača runs through the middle in a green gorge, crossed by the cable-stayed Millennium Bridge. Two places nearby draw far more visitors than the city itself, the monastery at Ostrog and the lake at Skadar. Summer here is the hottest of any European capital, so spring and autumn suit a visit better.
