Description
Ostrog is a monastery set into a vertical cliff of the Ostroška Greda, its white front built directly against the rock so that the stone forms the back wall of two cave chapels. It holds the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog and draws more pilgrims than any other site of the Serbian Orthodox Church, arriving from across the Balkans and beyond. A lower monastery sits in the trees five kilometres below, joined to the upper by a road of tight switchbacks that many walk instead, some of them barefoot. From the terrace the whole Bjelopavlići plain opens out toward Podgorica.
