Description
Durmitor is the high country of northern Montenegro and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a limestone massif of forty eight peaks over two thousand metres with eighteen glacial lakes scattered between them. The Black Lake below Žabljak is the one everybody walks around. Cutting the park's northern edge is the Tara canyon, thirteen hundred metres deep, the deepest gorge in Europe and second in the world only to the Grand Canyon. Rafting runs the Tara from spring into autumn. Snow closes much of the park in winter.
