Short description of Ondjiva

Ondjiva is the capital of Cunene province and sits forty kilometres north of Santa Clara, the busiest land border in the whole country and the way most overland travellers enter from Namibia. The town was fought over repeatedly in the long war with South Africa and very little of it survived at all, so almost everything standing here today is new. Oshiwambo homesteads and their cattle posts spread out across the flat country all around it. The market draws traders in from both sides of the border and is really the only reason to stop here.
