Short description of Benguela

Benguela was founded in sixteen seventeen and was for two centuries one of the main ports of the slave trade across the Atlantic, a history that the town has begun to talk about rather than hide. The old centre keeps low colonial streets and a church from seventeen forty eight, restored and still in use. Praia Morena runs along the front and is the city beach, and Baía Azul a short way to the south is the better one. Turtles come up to nest on the quieter stretches toward Baía Farta in the southern summer.
