Short description of Lobito
Lobito was built around a natural harbour and a long sand spit called the Restinga, which curls out right across the bay and carries most of the hotels and the restaurants in the town. The railway to the Congo border starts at the station here and has run inland for more than a century now, carrying copper down to the quays. Recent money has gone into the corridor, and the weekly train up the line still takes passengers. Benguela is only half an hour away, and the two towns really do work as a single pair.
