Description
Mgahinga is the smallest national park in Uganda, a wedge of the Virunga volcano chain where the country meets Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Three extinct cones stand inside it, and all three can be climbed in a long day each, the ascent of Sabyinyo ending on a summit shared by all three countries at once. One gorilla family is habituated here, and the park is the only place in Uganda to track the golden monkey, a bamboo specialist found nowhere outside the Virungas. Batwa guides run the trail through their former forest. The park is small enough for one base.
