Description
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is the reason most visitors come to Uganda at all, an ancient montane rainforest on the rim of the rift that shelters roughly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas. A permit buys one hour with a habituated family, reached on a trek that can take from one hour to eight through steep ground, mud and dense undergrowth. The forest is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most biodiverse in Africa, with over three hundred and fifty bird species. Batwa community walks tell the story of the forest's first people. Fitness matters more here than anywhere else in Uganda.
