Description
Jinja stands where the Nile leaves Lake Victoria and is the adventure capital of East Africa, a town of wide colonial streets and Indian-built shopfronts above the river. The stretch of white water below the town runs through grade five rapids and has made rafting the reason most people come, alongside kayaking, bungee jumping over the water and quad trips through the villages. A monument marks the point long identified as the source of the Nile. Boats run to the islands, and the riverbank camps outside town are a fixture of the overland route. The rapids are dam-regulated and run all year.
