Description
Entebbe sits on a peninsula in Lake Victoria and is the arrival point for almost every visitor to Uganda, a quiet former colonial capital of wide streets and flowering trees an hour south of Kampala. The botanical gardens run down to the lakeshore and hold enough forest to shelter colobus monkeys and hundreds of bird species within the town. Boats leave the harbour for Ngamba Island, where orphaned chimpanzees live on a forested sanctuary. The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre keeps rescued animals beside the water, and the town's beaches make an easy first or last night.
