Description
Lviv (Lwiw) is the cultural capital of western Ukraine and the country's most visited city after Kyiv, a Habsburg and Polish town whose old centre came through the twentieth century almost intact and went onto the UNESCO list in 1998. The Rynok square is ringed by forty four merchant houses in Italian, German and Armenian styles, the Lychakiv cemetery is one of the great romantic burial grounds of Europe, and the coffee house culture here is older and taken more seriously than anywhere else in Ukraine. Since 2022 the city has been the main arrival point from Poland and the country's largest military cemetery has grown at Lychakiv.
