Description
Chernihiv is one of the oldest towns in Ukraine and keeps more pre-Mongol architecture than anywhere else in the country, including a cathedral begun in 1030 that has stood through everything since. The Dytynets park on the bluff above the Desna holds four churches within a few hundred metres and a row of Cossack cannon pointing over the floodplain. The town was besieged and heavily shelled in the first weeks of 2022 and the damage is part of what visitors now see. Antoniyevi caves run under the Trinity monastery on the far hill.
