Short description of Livingstonia
Scottish missionaries moved up here in eighteen ninety four after malaria had driven them off the lakeshore twice, and they built a whole stone town on the escarpment a thousand metres above the water. The mission church has a stained glass window showing Livingstone himself arriving at the lake. Getting up there means twenty hairpin bends of rough dirt road from Chitimba, a climb that is fully half the reason people come at all. Manchewe falls drop a hundred and twenty five metres nearby and a cave behind the curtain was used to hide from slavers.
