Description
Kamchatka (Камчатка) is a peninsula the size of Germany with no road connecting it to the rest of Russia, reached only by air into Petropavlovsk. It carries more than three hundred volcanoes, twenty nine of them active, and the whole chain is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Two of them stand directly behind the city. The Valley of the Geysers, the second largest geyser field on earth, lies inside a nature reserve and is reachable only by helicopter. Brown bears gather in numbers at Kurile Lake when the salmon run. Everything here depends on weather that turns in half an hour.
