Description
Dnipro is a rocket and steel city on a bend of the river that gives it its name, closed to foreigners for most of the Soviet period because it built intercontinental missiles. It has the longest river embankment in Europe, a boulevard laid out by Catherine the Great, and a Menorah Centre that is among the largest Jewish community buildings anywhere. Since 2022 the city has been the main hospital and logistics hub for the southern front, roughly a hundred kilometres behind it, and it is regularly struck.
