Short description of Brikama
Brikama is the biggest town of the western interior and the craft capital of the country, where the woodcarvers work in a yard of sawdust and finished pieces stacked head high along the roadside. It is also the home of the kora, and families of hereditary musicians here have taught most of the players the visitor will hear on the coast. The market is large, entirely local and much cheaper than the craft stalls at the hotels. Nothing here has been arranged for the benefit of tourists. Buses from the coast run through the town all day long.
