Short description of Jenin
Jenin (Jinin) is a market town at the northern edge of the West Bank, where the hills open onto the fertile plain of Marj Ibn Amer. Its old town has a small covered market and Ottoman houses, and the Freedom Theatre in the refugee camp became known far beyond the region for its drama work with young people. In the village of Burqin nearby, the Church of St George is held to stand where Jesus healed ten lepers, and it is counted among the oldest churches in the Holy Land. The governorate is currently covered by a warning against all travel, and it cannot be visited safely at present.
