Wahiba Sands, Oman

Wahiba Sands

Description

The Wahiba Sands (رمال وهيبة), also known as “Al Sharqiyah Sands”, are a spectacular desert landscape in eastern Oman, covering around 10,000 square kilometers. The vast dune region features reddish sands in the north and lighter, crescent-shaped dunes in the south. The area is closely connected to the traditional way of life of Omani Bedouin communities and offers insights into the region’s desert heritage. Desert camps, camel trekking, 4WD dune drives, and sandboarding provide different ways to experience the landscape. Particularly atmospheric are the sunrises and sunsets, while the clear night sky and limited artificial light create excellent conditions for stargazing far from the bustle of Oman’s cities.
